Another happy place in the South; I'm so ecstatic! ♥

I didn't really know what to make of this café at first. I mean, I just know Designer Blooms as one of my mom's go-to places when she wants to buy flower decorations for her house. Expanding a flower shop to incorporate a small restaurant seemed fairly logical, albeit admittedly, I wasn't sure if they could serve food good enough to hold my interest.

For one thing, Designer Blooms Café was one of the very few restaurants at Molito, Alabang, that opened before noon (10 AM to be exact). Moreover, I've already tried Le Petit Chéri, which is just a few doors away, and besides, I was in no mood for French food. So, in the middle of my errands for the day, I decided to go inside and have some brunch.

I was greeted by vases and vases of flowers---roses, stargazers, carnations, calla lilies, etc.---and some potted plants I couldn't identify. Only three tables occupied the ground floor area, but more were available upstairs.

I nestled into a low antique, wooden solihiya chair, and perused the menu. There were breakfast items, appetizers, soups and salads, sandwiches, pasta and pizza, as well as a selection of coffee, juices, and even alcohol. I finally settled for a bowl of mushroom soup and an order of eggs ben.

Mismatched tables and chairs gave it a charming, laid-back vibe.

I leaned back into my chair, and got out my Note 2, ready to do some reading while I waited for my food. The rays of the morning sun were not as harsh since the building faced the opposite direction, yet it was bright enough to provide me with that peaceful morning aura I was craving for.

Hearty Mushroom Soup (P189)

The second my mouth closed upon the soup spoon, I was blown away. This has got to be the best mushroom soup I've ever tasted here in the South. I say South because I still keep having dreams about Bistro Filipino's Adobo Mushroom Puree. It's hard to say which of the two I prefer more, I like them both so much, and even if both are technically mushroom soup, they're still different anyway. While the Bistro's puree is savory in a meaty way, this one is more earthy.

A copious amount of minced shiitake, porcini and button mushrooms laid in a savory broth riddled with thyme, parsley and truffle oil. They didn't skimp on the ingredients, and it showed in the layers of flavor that came with each mouthful. I would have eaten two bowls if it weren't so filling.

Designer Blooms Cafe Eggs Benedicto
Eggs Benedicto (P215)

Their version of Eggs Benedict came with beef tapa instead of the usual salmon or ham, on top of pandesal bread instead of an English muffin; a Filipino twist if you will. On the side were dices of mangoes, grapes and sliced apples. Lately, I make it a point to always have at least two servings of fruit each day, so this dish actually got a few brownie points from me.

The hollandaise sauce had a certain, distinct taste---quite strong, but nice---that left me wondering what element they put in that wasn't usually part of the Eggs Ben I've tasted from other restaurants. Mixed with the poached eggs, it was a fascinating interplay of tastes, with the tender pieces of beef providing some sporadic meaty respite.

The iced tea was your usual house blend, hardly earth-shattering, but it still got the job done.

Such a bright and cheery place, with the flowers providing the colors that can make you just sigh and smile.

I just love, love, love it here. ♥

The other time I was here, I had the whole place to myself and I just loved lounging around and de-stressing, not minding the time so much. The staff were very warm and friendly, and made me feel at ease just hanging around. Good food, nice interiors, serene atmosphere; I'd definitely go back again and again and again.

Seems like restos in the South have this relaxing vibe. Hope a resto similar to that opens near our area. :)
