Cupcakes by Sonja Pistachio Berries N' Cream
I was first intrigued by their adorable and colorful website that could attract kids and teens alike. I just actually saw the link from a friend in Facebook who was raving about their cute site. Coincidentally, I was planning of having a cupcake party for my daughter instead of getting the usual fondant cake.

Cupcakes by Sonja shop
Frankly, I haven't tried cupcakes by Sonja yet, but looking at their online menu and pictures of the pastries, I was attracted to the idea of having giant, regular and mini cupcakes for the party. Add that to the fact that the prices seemed reasonable, I called them up to inquire. I ended up visiting them at Serendra to discuss my cupcake requirements.

Cupcakes by Sonja interior
Their small shop exuded charm with walls decked in pinkish floral and striped wallpapers. One wall was embellished with shelves of cupcake figurines and framed feature articles about Sonja and her cupcakes.

Cupcakes by Sonja menu board
The menu board which reminded you of diners and cafes, very much in tune with the rest of the decor, listed different flavors of cupcakes and drinks like coffee, lemonade and milkshakes.

The glass display case boasted of colorful and inviting little goodies, sitting on doily-covered trays, tempting and beguiling.

Cupcakes by Sonja Banana Monkey Cream Pie
I wanted to taste a few flavors so we ordered a couple of cupcakes. The Banana Monkey Cream Pie (P85) was really good. The bananas meshed well with the cookie crust that hinted of caramel and rum. I'm even craving for another one as I'm writing this.

I also liked the Pistachio Berries N' Cream (P85). The cake itself wasn't as moist as I expected it to be, but the combination of the flavors was good. I loved the tartness of the berries as it blended with the sweetness of the cupcake and whipped cream icing. I'd order these two flavors of cupcakes again.

Cupcakes by Sonja Iced Tea
I wasn't fond of the Iced Tea (P90) though. It was the homemade kind and I find it too sweet. Nevertheless, the cupcakes were what I came here for, and I definitely enjoyed the first two that I've tried.

After discussing the details of the cupcakes for the party, the crew handed us a complimentary gift box. I think it was because we were getting irritated by the lack of service when we first went inside the store. But they've already apologized and the order discussion went well so we refused to accept the gift, stating that there was no need for it. But they insisted and wouldn't take no for an answer, and so we finally accepted the box of cupcakes.

Cupcakes by Sonja assorted cupcakes
The box contained four different flavors: s'mores tart, bunny hugger carrot cupcake, pb&j and peppermint patty.

Cupcakes by Sonja S'mores Tart
The S'mores Tart (P75) was nice but really, really sweet for my taste. It had marshmallow fluff and layers of dark chocolate, topped with graham and caramelized marshmallow. I had to stop for a savory break before I can continue to finish the cupcake.

Cupcakes by Sonja Bunny Hugger Carrot Cupcake
I like the Bunny Hugger Carrot Cupcake (P60) better. The cream cheese icing had a hint of sourness to it, dotted with a little sweetness from the cinnamon powder. The cupcake itself was light and airy, and thus a good complement for the icing.

Cupcakes by Sonja PB&J
I didn't care much for the PB & J (P70). The chocolate cupcake had grape jelly and topped with peanut butter frosting. Or maybe I'm just not a fan of peanut butter. I can only eat them in small, sporadic amounts at a time.

Cupcakes by Sonja Peppermint Patty
The only thing I like with the Peppermint Patty (P68) is the frosting just because I love mint-flavored sweets. I find the dark chocolate cupcake a bit dry. Honestly, I appreciate the Frostings Cupcakes better because of the melt-in-your mouth consistency of their cakes. That is, with the exception of the first two cupcakes that I ordered. I would recommend their refrigerated cupcakes like the Banana Monkey Cream Pie and Pistachio Berries N' Cream more than the non-refrigerated ones like the latter four.

Cupcakes by Sonja Giant and Mini cupcakes
As for the party, I was happy with the Vanilla Sunshine Giant Cupcake (P925). The letters were P10 a piece and the 3D topper was P60. You can customize the frosting, candy sprinkles, and you just have to email them a picture of the topper that you would like for the cake. The Vanilla Sunshine Cupcake (P55)  and the Vanilla Sunshine Mini Cupcakes (3 for P55) were a hit with the guests. Most found the frosting sweet but yummy, and the vanilla cake provided that nice contrast to balance the dessert. I was also happy with their prompt replies each time I had to email them additional orders or specify more details.

@J: Pinoys are catching up, more and more people have cupcakes for parties rather than the usual fondant cake. they're cuter, plus more convenient to serve. :)

Seems like you didn't try their famous "red velvet vixen". If you didn't you should. Anyway, everything from this cupcake shop is heavenly. :)
