Steamed Shrimp Tofu from Zong
A Chinese restaurant hidden in the corners of Westgate...

Zong interiors
The interior was pretty simple -- light-colored benches flanking equally light-colored tables, it had a sort of minimalist air. A few wine bottles balanced on a ledge, the lights were pretty bright, and a staircase on one side served as an entryway for more room upstairs.

Zong menu
Just like P.F. Chang's, the menu boasts of using no MSG on their food.

Zong Yang Chow Fried Rice
The Yang Chow Fried Rice (P288) pretty much abounds with pieces of omelette, pork, sliced scallions, and topped with garlic bits. I've mentioned this before, Yang Chow has very slim nuances that differ it from one another across several versions from Chinese restaurants. I've yet to encounter one that would stick to mind as the best or the crème de la crème.

Zong Steamed Shrimp Tofu
The Steamed Shrimp Tofu (P338) was a revelation. Admittedly, I was hesitant to try it out when the waiter suggested it, albeit my mom was adamant about getting it. It sounded too healthy for what I was trying to search for that would appease my hankering taste buds. I still took a piece of the prawn together with a thick disc of tofu and cut it in half. As I nestled it into my mouth, the hot, soft tofu gently caressed the subtle flavor of the shrimp, indeed emitting a healthy nature, yet one not compromised in terms of taste.

Zong Hot Prawn Salad
While there was nothing bad about the Hot Prawn Salad (P448), I still say it's a far cry from my favorite one from Gloria Maris. While the latter has mixed fruits accompanying the shrimps, this has more of sliced vegetables with a few pineapples tossed in. I do like the touch of cashew nuts giving a bit of a nibbly texture; flavor-wise, nothing that would compel me to order it again.

Zong Caramelized Pork Loin
The Caramelized Pork Loin (P348) proved to be a satisfying dish. While it looked tough, a slice from the butter knife indicated otherwise. The sauce it was drenched with was palatably sweet with a spicy endnote that balanced the saccharinity. This reciprocity of flavors was enough to urge you to take in bite after bite.

Have you tried Zong? What dishes did you like if you did?
